Transportation continues to be a big issue in the city of Syracuse. If students can’t get to school, they can’t learn and they can’t graduate. What can the school board do to provide more transportation for our city students? (1100 character limit)

What will the school board do to accommodate the approximately 400 children needing pre-k slots? (1100 character limit)

The Board and Superintendent continually assess the needs of our children in this District's. We realize that a very high percentage of our children live in poverty and nourishment is necessary for children to learn. We are always looking for ways to expand this program and will continue to do so.
We have reduced the miles from 2 to 1.5. It is still too far. I have been a member of the transportation task force which looks at a variety of ways to reduce the miles the children have to walk. I have also advocated in Albany for more funding for transportation including proposing Syracuse be a pilot. We need the community to partner with the District to advocate with State officials for additional funding for our children. Our children should not have to walk in the road in the winter or walk in the dark.
We have made a commitment to provide pre-k to all eligible children. Every year we have increased the number of seats and locations in Pre-K. We will continue to do this until every age appropriate child is in Pre-K.
