Occupation/current position Hamtramck City Councilman; Business Owner; Law School Student
I am running for office because I believe I have a firm understanding of the issues and can work toward finding reasonable solutions to the problems the city faces. I have been involved in many projects, including being a founding member of Friends of Historic Hamtramck Stadium and the former Chair of the Neighborhood Restoration and Economic Development Committee for Hamtramck's Weed and Seed program. I am a current member of the Hamtramck City Council and have graduated Level One of the MML's Elected Officials Academy. I stand up for what I believe in and back up my assertions with facts and logic, and I communicate openly, honestly, and transparently with the public regarding my opinions and actions on council. As a homeowner and business owner I am able to balance the needs of residents and businesses with those of the city to ensure that the decisions which are made consider all.
Like many other cities, the biggest issue facing Hamtramck is a shortfall in funding. This can’t be solved without significant legislative changes, but local elected officials should understand the issue and accurately report how it affects our municipalities. I will do this. A second issue the city faces is the overstepping of duties by council. As a current Council member I understand our role and responsibilities, and if re-elected I will gladly assist any new members with the acclimation process. A third issue is getting on one page in a cohesive narrative between all communities. Right now we have a very diverse but fragmented city, and many of the groups don’t really mix. I have made a point of trying to include members of all groups in conversations regarding the city and how to move it forward, and I will continue to work to bring all groups together as one Hamtramck community.
