Town where you live East Olympia
Experience (300 characters max) I've worked in the Fire Service for the last 43 years with the last 18 years as the Deputy Chief of Operations for Lacey Fire District. In addition, for the last 17+ years I've held the elected position of Fire Commissioner in East Olympia Fire District 6.
I'm running for re-election. I've held the position for 17+ years. I've been blessed to have had a long and rewarding career in the Fire Service. It has been an honor to serve the citizens of East Olympia as Fire Commissioner. As long as I can make a positive contribution to our community, I want to continue as Fire Commissioner. East Olympia Fire District 6 has experienced several critical changes in the last 17 years and I'm proud to say that was able to contribute and provide guidance to the District through these challenges.
1) Sustainable Funding-The Cities of Olympia, Tumwater and Lacey continue to exercise their right to annex into their Urban Growth Boundaries. As they do so, we need to be prepared for the funding impacts as well as the emergency coverage impacts of our citizens, 2) Volunteer Retention- It's becoming more and more difficult to find folks in our community willing to endure the time and pressure of becoming a volunteer firefighter. 3) Succession-In the next 2-5 years, we may be looking at filling all of the Chief Officer and Administrative positions due to retirement. How and who we fill these will be critical for the success of our District.
I don't think you can place one ahead of another here. These are the three critical issues facing the District and any one of these "if handled incorrectly" can adversely affect the District.
Over 40 years of service in the Fire Service with 17+ as your Fire Commissioner. I have lived in this community (East Olympia) for over 23 years and I take extreme pride in my small part in making this a great place to live and rise a family.

I have been very involved in the emergency services for Thurston County and I'm proud to say that East Olympia Fire District 6 has been a leader in our community in helping County wide with today's challenges.

I know the issues in front of us and I know what we have to do to prepare for the impacts.
