Town where you live West Richland
Experience (300 characters max) Four years as a council member and almost four years as mayor.
Following my election to city council eight years ago, the council created the city's first vision and mission statement with goals and objectives to follow while leading our city into the future. Also, city administration created policies, procedures and job descriptions for all employees which were previously lacking. In 2012, I ran for the open seat of mayor understanding the importance of continuing what the council and administration started. Also, my business expertise would be an asset.
The lack of day time jobs. The lack of day time car counts. The lack of retail sales tax for the general fund
The lack of retail sales tax for the general fund because you can build a city on building permits but it survives and strengthens with the general fund.
The city provides and maintains a senior center and provides low income senior discounts for utilities. We worked with the food bank to show a need for a food bank branch in West Richland, not only for our low income residents but for our senior citizens who have challenging circumstances.
Everyone is welcome in our city if they are in compliance with federal and state laws. If the city itself does not comply we are subject to losing state and federal funding for city projects.
We are a relatively young and growing city with good infrastructure. However when things start to deteriorate we will need a strong general fund to support the needed maintenance that is not covered by revenue supported utilities. (as noted in questions 2 and 3)
The Police Department has started a community care fund which officers can use to help those they encounter who are in need of a warm place to stay, meal, or other needs. The city also partners with area cities through an inter-local agreement for providing local homeless housing and assistance plans and programs.
