Every candidate in every Nassau County election for decades says something like: “We must reform the unjust property tax system to provide businesses and homeowners with a transparent, fair and clear assessment program going forward.” And it never happens. Other than repeating the above, what is your specific plan for fixing this system that continues a debt burden for Nassau County.

Integrity, honesty, trustworthiness are all qualities we expect from our politicians, yet Nassau County has had several elected officials that have faced criminal charges. What specifically will you do to implement accountability, transparency, checks and balances, and proper oversight? What concrete steps will you take to re-build the public’s trust?

Having the financial resources to live in Nassau County is becoming increasingly difficult. What strategic plans do you have on the county level to support and partner with the various municipalities to create more affordable housing for young adults, working families and seniors?

Redistricting and gerrymandering affect the choice of candidates that voters elect to represent them. What are your views for setting up an independent redistricting commission for Nassau County for the drawing of lines after the 2020 census? If you agree with setting up an independent redistricting commission, how would you make it a reality in Nassau County? If you are not for an independent redistricting commission, why not?

I like Jack Martins' plan to decentralize the process and move it to the towns. That is the way it is done in almost every other county in the state. The towns are closer to the properties and have a better handle on their values, and this really should be their responsibility.
I am firm believer in a strong code of ethics with significant sanctions. I support and would like to participate on a panel to study ways to ensure transparency, open disclosure and accountability by elected officials. Public trust will only be re-built through a period of time where this transparency is clearly visible.
I fully support continued transit oriented development. and greater density around transportation hubs, of which Mineola is an excellent example. I look forward to supporting and facilitating the implementation of these projects where suitable.
I would support any mechanism, in accordance with the law, to ensure compliance and fairness.
Although the County’s portion of your tax bill accounts for less than 20% of the average tax bill, reforming the broken assessment system is a top priority. Under the current system, if you do not grieve your tax bill by March 1st of each year, your assessment remains the same, causing your taxes to go up to pay for the tax reductions of those who successfully challenged. My plan to reform the assessment system will include: More information to residents on what the assessed value is, and how to grieve it; Yearly re-assessments by the County, to ensure all values are as accurate as possible; Most importantly, ban all political contributions by the Tax Certiorari firms that have made money off of this broken system, at the taxpayers expense. I would like to also see tax bills with automatic grievances already provided. . I will continue with having most number of tax grievance workshops and the free video on youtube that shows taxpayers how to grieve.
As an elected official, I value integrity, honesty and trustworthiness and have not done anything nor ever been accused of being dishonest or untrustworthy. I have proposed legislation that would make County Government more accountable and transparent such as the need for an independent inspector general that would make sure that multi-million dollar contracts are not given out as political favors but out of necessity. I have pressured the Administration to provide more disclosures so that all Legislators can vote for multi-million dollar contracts with out the concern that there is some hidden kick-back or benefit to a politically-connected private individual or firms. I have also protected tax payers in Valley Stream by exposing the illegal 80 million dollar tax break given to Green Acres Mall by the Town of Hempstead IDA. I organized, educated and worked with concerned citizens, forcing the Town to revoke the tax break and now the issue is in Litigation. I will continue these steps
I would like to partner with villages and towns to see if we can make our downtowns more attractive for young people and young families to move to such as the Cool Downtown plan once envision by former County Exec. Tom Suozzi. I have a vision of affordable apartments above retail locations similar to what we see in Rockville Center. We can have economic development zones where landlords receive a tax incentive for building such housing and accommodations.
I support an independent redistricting commission for the drawing of the 2020 census lines. I represent a district that was redistricted due to the 2010 census. My original district was drawn in a more fair manner which is why a Republican and a Democrat (I) was able to be elected to serve that area. However, my district was sliced and diced not in accordance with the one person, one vote rule and drawn in a way that violates many well standing constitutional cases that protect the principal of one person, one vote. In other words, the district that I represent, was drawn in an illegal way in order to preserve the political power of the ruling political party. Nevertheless, I am very thankful for the people I represent. I have been able to many good things for the communities of N. Woodmere and Inwood. I would implement a true independent commission with persons who are not political strategist and amend the County Charter which is inconsistent on this issue in its current form.
