Biographical Information

Please provide biographical information and explain why you are running for City office and relevant qualities and skills you would bring to the position.

What are the top 3 Priority Issues that the city should address and what actions would you take regarding each of them?

Hello, my name is Eric Haven. I have lived in Clarkston since 1973 when I moved here with my wife, Nancy. We raised our two children in Clarkston and are now watching two of our five grandchildren grow up here as well.

I have been both a resident and a business owner in Clarkston during those 44 years. I was a member of the village council when Clarkston became a city 25 years ago. I am a strong advocate of the protections cityhood, knowledgeable planning, careful zoning and our historic district bring to the community.

I believe Clarkston is a unique and enviable jewel in Oakland County, a 19th-century Mill Village which has preserved its identity and charm since being established in 1832. I have seen the city go through many phases, but I have never been more enthused than I am today about its future. I'm a current member of the City Council, the Planning Commission and serve as chairman of the Friends of Depot Park.

With a significant word limitation here is my succinct answer:

Clarkston is experiencing tensions that desirable destinations inevitably incur: (1) traffic, (2) parking and (3) infrastructure issues, but we are overcoming these stresses in innovative ways. We are successfully engaging our industrious, creative citizens and professionals in problem solving. And, as we do, increasing our community’s vitality and property values. I think Clarkston has an exceedingly bright future and will continuously enhance its desirability as a place to live and work by dedicating ourselves personally and governmentally to qualitative improvements in all areas.

Thank you for allowing me to serve you in the past. I welcome your ideas and comments and ask for your vote in November to continue what we have started together.

Sincerely, Eric Haven haveneric@gmail.com

Dear Voter,

My family and I have lived in the Clarkston area and now the Village for a total of 16 years. I am a degreed electrical engineer having graduated from the University of Michigan and have worked for a leading automotive supplier for over 24 years. With my current position, I lead the powertrain business segment but have held numerous roles previously that have led me to the experience I have now. I have also served on the leadership team for a local church and coached my kid’s athletics. These experiences have allowed me to serve in this community and helped to refine the skills needed for this new role including expanding my knowledge base, team cooperation, challenge process, problem solving and most importantly for this role, forward thinking. City counsel is divided in the Village and my skills will create a Bridge not division.

I welcome the growth and complexities of our community. I plan to participate as both an attentive listener that honors the history of the Village, while also contributing as a problem solver that supports the growth and enthusiasm.
What I have to offer:

- A new voice

- Independent & forward thinker

- Transparent

- Attentive Listener

- Kind and committed neighbor

- Preserve the needs of homeowners of The Village

- Safety on our streets

- Continue to enhance our downtown experience

- Strengthen fiscal responsibility

- Support and strengthen our historic district

Building Bridges…bringing our growing community together
