School board members interpret state law related to the school district, establish policies that will help the local schools and the students attending and are the overseers of the school district budget. The board hires and fires administrators and teachers and support personnel. School boards should develop long-term plans, set high instructional standards and establish assessments that review the quality of the district’s programs, faculty, staff and students. Board members must live within the district.

What are the current challenges facing your school district and how would you address them?

Training & Experience Elected to Crestwood Board of Education for two four-year terms (2008-11; 2014-17). Rotarian; Treasurer, Rotary Club of Mantua. 12 years experience as part owner of small manufacturing business that was successfully sold to a global company.
We must review and refresh our Strategic Plan to ensure District focus on areas that are important to our community. I will work with community members, other Board members, and administrators to develop a Plan based on their input. Facilities must enable the best educational experience possible for our students. Our facilities must accommodate rapidly changing technology and teaching techniques; they must be accessible and secure. Facilities must be operated efficiently, and they must be well-maintained. I will continue to work with the community and with district employees to ensure our Strategic Plan maintains focus in these areas. Declining enrollment means that we will face tough decisions regarding programs, employees, and facilities. These decisions must be made with care and compassion to avoid serious damage to our community. I will work to ensure that the best interests of our community are represented in the plans and options that are considered as these decisions are made.

Training & Experience Oversee daily operations for high-volume medical practice. Recruit, hire and train staff. Assist in physician license renewals, credentialing and reappointment certifications. Manage with direct participation in annual budget to achieve optimal productivity and growth
The Crestwood district as well as many other districts face issues with substance abuse. I want to engage our children more by allowing all children to participate in activities without fees. We currently have a lack in building maintenance which needs addressed. I would like to have a yearly maintenance plan with quarterly goals which would enable the schools to be accountable for the budget, upkeep and preservation of our current buildings. We face budget challenges in the upcoming years and our current board is allowing levy's to go on for a new building, which we as a district will not be able to support in the years to come. We currently have a divided community and I feel we need work together with the amazing teachers and administrators in our district to find ways to increase our district scores by reaching out to our community being open minded to all to regain a united community atmosphere where all are heard for the benefit of the children, schools and community as a whole

Training & Experience 30 years as a High School Math teacher in Rootstown. 20 years as owner/operator Monroe's Lawn Service. 7 year member and 4 year president of the booster club. 4 year member of Crestwood Board of Education. Lifelong and 6th generation resident of the Crestwood Community
The challenge for Crestwood is preparing our students for life after high school. That path could be a college direction or vocational training. The days of graduating high school and getting a low skill, well paying job are over. Low skill jobs are very rapidly becoming extinct with the influx of robotics and artificial intelligence. There is currently farm equipment that can plow or spray fields, without an operator, by GPS. We will have driverless trucks travel from hub to hub. The college route does not ensure well paying positions anymore as there is an overabundance of college graduates with low tech degrees. Research predicts 50% of future jobs have not been created yet and a person entering the workforce will have 17 jobs in their life. So our task as a school board is to provide modern facilities and curriculum support to prepare our students to be problem solvers, collaborators, self-starters and creative thinkers so that they can adapt to ever-changing job skills.

There are several issues facing the Crestwood Local Schools, most urgently are declining enrollment, cuts in state funding, and severe divisions in the community over the recent bond issue. Some of this division is a result of a lack of transparency and information sharing between the current school board and the public. Community support is crucial for student success. We need to focus on issues such as supporting students and teachers, giving them the resources they need to improve test scores and report card data. We need to attract new families to the district. The future budget deficit is an issue that we must solve without new levies. We need a solid maintenance plan to take better care of our facilities within our current budget. We need to revitalize our district and restore faith in our community that Crestwood Schools will provide the best education possible in the 21st century.
