What is the most important issue facing your township, and what do you specifically suggest to address this issue?

Consolidation of emergency services is advocated as a cost saving efficiency. What is your position on shared equipment ownership?

The heroin crisis is escalating in Clermont. The Mental Health Board has a four part plan to increase treatment, prevent opiate misuse, reduce harm and cut the supply of opiates. What specific actions should your township take to protect residents?

Experience Miami Township Trustee since 2001 Chairperson of the Miami Township park levy 1995. I have worked on numerous committee's and boards in Clermont County including the Clermont Chamber of Commerce, Prevention First, Council On Aging, Connect Clermont and graduated from several leadership classes including Lead Clermont 1996, Ohio Township Association Leadership Academy, Joanne Davidson Leadership Class 2001, Coalition Academy. Received the Township award at Salute to Leaders 1996. My work now as the Director of the Coalition for a Drug Free Clermont County involves managing a Drug Free Communities grant for the County which funds primary prevention services for the youth of Clermont County 18 and under. I have worked tirelessly the make Miami Township a great place to live, delivered conservative budgets and managed the resources of the township with the collaboration of the Board members. I am an advocate at the state and federal level for issues regarding local government and management of local resources.
The greatest challenge is resources for the future. Townships have had resources taken from them at the State level that has resulted in a loss to the general fund of 1 million dollars. Townships do not have income taxes and have limited ability to find other ways to find funds. We aggressively go after funding opportunities, partner with other governments to maximize resources and have created tools that enhance economic development in the Township. We need to be open to opportunities that may be available in conjunction with economic development such as Joint Economic Development Districts with our neighboring cities and continue to partner with the county on road infrastructure with the Transportation Improvement District. Miami Township needs to continue it's conservative fiscal management that has allowed the Township to come through the 2008 recession in a positive position and the appropriate use of economic development tools balancing business and residential development.
This is a very difficult and complex issue. There is already in place in most communities mutual aid agreements which communities share resources and cover each other. There are vast disparities of incomes in the various communities surrounding Miami Township. Most highly needed equipment and robust Fire and EMS services also allow for lower ISO ratings in communities and thereby enables residents in those communities to have lower insurance rates. Our greatest service demand is for EMS and having ambulances to transport people to the hospital . Miami Township has levies that have been voted on by the residents of the community that funds the level of care that our community desires. We are always partnering with our local communities for training services and other again use the mutual aid agreements to share equipment with our partner communities. Consolidation will leave someone without the service delivery they may need it needs to be a last resort strategy.
Miami Township already has been very involved with the Opiate Task Force and has been a location for the mobile crisis team in the police department. Recently, our township has partnered to deliver a quick response team with members of Greater Cincinnati Behavioral Health's quick response team made up of peer support partners and first responders who follow up after the delivery of narcan. In my capacity as the Director of the Coalition for a Drug Free Clermont County, I am working with the Partnership for a Drug Free Milford Miami Township providing evidenced based prevention services and environmental strategies for our 18 and under youth population. All of our officers have been trained in Crisis Intervention Training and we have provided DARE for the past 25 years when all other departments in Clermont County stopped doing it. We are also creating opportunities for youth to be involved with outreach with law enforcement. Our Fire and EMS are spread out throughout the township
