Community Involvement I am an active participant and volunteer for the Knox Youth Council, Knox Winterfest, Knox Memorial Day Parade, BKW PTA, St. Lucy/St. Bernadette Church and the Rescue Mission of Albany. I have developed and present legal information seminars for BKW Jr/Sr High School and present at the annual NYS Dept of Agriculture & Markets conferences for municipal officers. In addition, I use resources from my business to support many local causes, including the Jean Forti Walk for Education. .
Experience and Qualifications I have faithfully and impartially served the Town of Knox as their justice for 12 years. I have completed over 200 hours of highly specialized judicial training.
Biography My husband and I moved to Knox over 20 years ago to raise our two daughters in a rural, close knit community. I've been fortunate to have a successful 40 year career in travel, culminating in the recent purchase of my own travel agency.
Occupation and Special Skills I am an intelligent, energetic and hardworking individual whether I am on the bench, or behind my desk. I have excellent communication skills and value honesty and integrity. These attributes and skills help me serve my community and ensure that their experience within the court system is one that they can reflect on as positively as possible. In my 12 years as town justice I have developed excellent working relationships with local law enforcement, district attorneys, public defenders, probation departments, and correctional facilities. I am available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for arraignments, search warrants and orders of protection, protecting the security and safekeeping of my community day and night.
For twelve years as town justice I have guaranteed defendants and victims the due process of law they are entitled to in a variety of cases: criminal, civil, small claims and vehicle and traffic. Our court has operated efficiently and conscientiously and garnered the respect of all members of the local criminal justice system. I have effectively administered justice that protects and enhances our fundamental constitutional rights all the while considering the effect on both our local community and the general public. Over 200 hours of specialized training, annual inspections of secure facilities, and experience serving temporary assignments in larger courts has increased the first hand knowledge essential for important decisions regarding sentencing, alternative work programs, community service and court supervision of defendants.
I would like to continue to develop the legal information seminars for students, including parents and other adults whenever appropriate. Our court has been very successful in obtaining NYS grants to update our technology and storage capabilities and I would like to continue that process. The town justice court is, in many cases, a citizen's first and only interaction with the judicial branch of our government. I would like to continue to ensure that their experience is fair, respectful and has a positive affect on their lives.
