I believe in taking a multi-faceted approach towards Town issues. The first step is to reach out to the residents of the community to solicit their opinions. If an issue affects more than one community, I would see if we could partner with a neighboring community to seek savings. If it is an issue that affects many communities or where the resolution is very costly, such as infrastructure repairs or flood control, I would seek participation on the County, State and even Federal level.
The Town of Mamaroneck has always been a leader in affordable housing. The Town Housing Authority was established 25 years ago, and the Hommocks Park Apartments were constructed to provide affordable and work force housing. The Town Board rezoned the business districts to permit residential use with the requirement of an affordable component and adopted the model housing ordinance which also has a required affordable component. Additionally, the Town operates a Section 8 Voucher Program.

The biggest issue facing the Town is maintaining the high level of services while minimizing tax increases. The expense of providing daily services combined with upcoming infrastructure projects mean that tough choices will need to be made. We also need to continue our stewardship of the environment and encourage creation of fair and affordable housing. I will facilitate dialog between local elected officials and residents so we can all participate in prioritizing and accomplishing these tasks.
I am proud that the Town was a leader in providing affordable housing with the development of the Hommocks Park Apartments in the 1990’s. The biggest obstacles the Town currently faces regarding this issue are the high cost of real estate and the scarcity of available land. Recent zoning changes to allow residential units in the business district are one way the Town is seeking solutions to this issue. I plan to continue this work to find ways to increase the supply of affordable housing.
