As a collaborative problem-solver, I look forward to working on behalf of Cortlandt's taxpayers to ensure that our Town is environmentally resilient, economically vibrant and has a socially dynamic future in all we do. While we must continue to offer excellent parks, recreation, sanitation, roads and other municipal services, we must also keep our taxes low and affordable. I am a proven leader ready to fight to mitigate the impact of Indian Point's closing and will keep Cortlandt moving forward.
The Town of Cortlandt has been a leader in building affordable housing units, though there is more to be done to ensure that our families (particularly single parents, young adults and senior citizens) can afford to stay in our community. As a Master Plan Committee Member over the last 15 years and as a Planning Board member, I have helped to shape the Town’s efforts to encourage affordable housing. On the Town Board, I will strengthen those efforts and work to keep taxes low and affordable.

Prior Civic Service I have served my community as a founder and leader of Power Through Cortlandt, which is a community service organization that was formed to fight against the adverse financial, environmental, and community impacts of the Indian Point closure.

The most pressing issue facing the Cortlandt community is the loss of tax revenue due to the closure of the Indian Point power plant. As councilman, I aim to work with businesses, as well as county and state officials, to make Cortlandt the first stop in Westchester for sustainable business growth. Secondly, the town must do its part to combat the growing opioid epidemic, which can be reduced through education programs, community programs, and focused outreach to at risk children and families.
Cortlandt has the lowest tax rates in Westchester, and is one of the least expensive places in live in our county. I support the growth of Cortlandt, however, increasing the supply of affordable housing must be done responsibly and with a focus on the long-term vision for our community. Adding to the supply of fair and affordable housing can only be done if there are adequate services to support the growth.

Once elected, I will sponsor legislation in the form of a resolution requesting The State to subsidize the Town of Cortlandt for any loss of tax revenue due to the closing of Indian Point. In addition, we cannot rely only on a task force. We need to create our own destiny as a municipality by developing new ideas to bring in revenue, but not from taxpayers, to offset the probable loss of tax revenue. Also, I will initiate a job plan to keep many of our employees of Indian Point in the community.
Affordable housing is workforce housing by definition which includes providing reduced cost housing for our teachers, town workers, police, firefighters, and sanitation workers. I would like to add a very important category that seems rarely to be included and that is our Veterans! Any large scale multi family housing that is proposed to the Cortlandt Town Board, I will propose that a percentage of the housing be designated "affordable" through legislation to include Veterans.
