Experience (300 characters max) Thirty five years of business management experience in healthcare as a director, manager and entrepreneur.
Sammamish is a young and vibrantly growing community that is in a catch-up mode for the infrastructure for our community. As a young community, we have a long list of items needing to be addressed: our road network, forest preserves with a trail network, storm water runoff plans, residential development, the Town Center comprehensive plan, transit options and the development of parks and recreational activities for our citizens - all while maintaining and enhancing our environment and keeping taxes low.

Sammamish has in place a program to set aside 10% of multi-unit housing development identified as "affordable". As a young city, Sammamish has relied upon our religious community to assist with the homeless population in our city. As we have grown as a city, it is time for Sammamish to initiate a human services program, dependent upon funding from the city, to assist of our homeless population for immediate needs while working in partnership with King County for longer term solutions. A new partnership with Habitat for Humanity has been recently created to assist lower income families secure a home in Sammamish.
Sammamish does not have adequate services for our senior population, so we should work to provide in-city transit for our older citizens, develop and incorporate into our Town Center senior citizen housing conveniently walkable to services, include seniors in community based programs, work with the county library system to make the Sammamish library more senior friendly and accessible, and adequately fund for human services for our senior citizens.
Sammamish is an open community embracing our immigrant population and understands that our community is stronger with our diverse population.
Comprehensive Planning and identifying the vision of our city’s future while maintaining our city character and quality of life. Growth Management for balancing and enhancing our roadway network with trails, parks, transit and infrastructure required to maintain our quality of life. Management of Environmentally Sensitive areas within our city and preservation of our lakes, rivers, wetlands and forests.
The most urgent issue facing Sammamish is growth management to accommodate a growing population and the infrastructure required to maintain and enhance the quality of life for our citizens while continuing to be fiscally conservative and environmentally conscious.
An independent non-partisan voice for our citizens, I bring extensive business management experience to assist in the growth of our community while enhancing our quality of life. I am an experienced, independent, objective and mature voice who can focus and dedicate the time required to resolve our issues.

Experience (300 characters max) I have a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in economics and 25 years combined experience at Accenture and Microsoft. I have served as PTA President, basketball coach, & Chief Umpire on the ELL board. I teach martial arts with my children and have black belts in Arnis and Taekwondo.
The biggest issues facing Sammamish are due to development of new homes outpacing the buildout of our infrastructure. Our roads and schools are over-crowded, we have areas with drainage/storm water overflow, and we have areas without connectivity for bikes and pedestrians. We need to increase the capacity of our roads, increase viable public transportation options, create intra-city public transportation options, and partner with technology firms to develop platforms to allow residents to connect for ride sharing that works for them. We need to create a plan that builds out the needed infrastructure before we add hundreds of new residents, students, and drivers.
I think that Sammamish can deal with the homeless in our area in several ways. Ensuring we have adequate community policing efforts in place to assist homeless when they are encountered. Also, the city is conducting a study to determine what, if any, social services are needed in Sammamish, as we currently offer none. We should look to this study to inform us of what services would best help those in Sammamish. Ensuring we can triage the needs of the homeless when they ask for help or when they interact with our first responders or other city staff is a great first step to getting them the assistance that will best serve their immediate and short-term needs.
I believe that we need to ensure we offer services to our senior residents, enabling them to stay in their homes, whenever possible. We have many residents who have called Sammamish home for 30 or 40 years and we should do what we can to ensure they can continue to call Sammamish home. As property values rise and thus property taxes rise, we should consider programs to provide property tax reimbursements or credits to those on a fixed income below a certain threshold. This would ensure that residents are not taxed out of their homes. And, as mentioned above, we should review the results of the human services study to determine what services our residents need and what recommendations we should implement in Sammamish.
We are a very diverse community and that diversity is an integral part of our character. We have benefitted economically and culturally from immigration and diversity. Our city should continue to embrace our diversity and make all feel welcome and find opportunities to share our diversity with one another. Illegal immigration is an issue to be dealt with by the federal government. At this point in time, our job is to serve and keep safe all residents of our community.
Sammamish has limited sources of income. Therefore, we need to focus on growing our businesses, ensuring that our estimates and calculations for impact fees are current and accurate, and explore other sources of revenue. Working to attract and retain a diverse set of businesses and restaurants in Sammamish will generate more revenue for the city as well as create convenience and improve the quality of life for our residents. Exploring additional revenue options may include recurring franchise fees for businesses utilizing our rights of way and other resources, like fiber optic companies. City staffing and budgeting are major issues. New development and infrastructure projects require staff resources and we must ensure that levels of service for all parts of our city government are maintained at acceptable levels while adhering to an agreed upon budget. Our city is now 64000 strong and growing and we must ensure that we have enough top-quality staff to serve our population.
Managing growth and development is the most urgent our city faces. The city council must hear the voices of the community, address their concerns, and provide options for the people to choose from to address these issues. We cannot continue to allow our residents to spend more and more time sitting in traffic and losing more and more time with their families. And we cannot continue to allow our residents to feel that their voices are not being heard.
In Sammamish, we have a council/manager form of government. This means that the city council sets policy and budget and the city manager is responsible for executing on the projects needed to adhere to the policies. I would rely on the city manager and staff as subject matter experts for all topics and projects, including providing data, studies, examples, and answering questions. The city manager and staff participate in and sometimes drive committees and meetings, both locally and regionally, to gather information, provide insight and expertise, and to ensure continuity. We then ensure open and transparent communications with the city manager, including the manager in meetings as a chief advisor. The council should hold the city manager accountable for execution of projects as planned just as the citizens hold the council accountable for ensuring the plans meet the needs of the community.
