Roads are in disrepair, traffic congestion due to growth and trains, technology needs upgrading and we need a good plan for upcoming development.
Make sure services are available, serve those in our community without creating incentives that attract more than we can accommodate. We can also make sure to zone for housing affordability including tiny homes and accessory dwelling units.
The same as with everyone else, listen to their concerns and respond in an effective and efficient way to make sure we take care of the most vulnerable in our community. Services need to be available for them in a manner that makes it accessible and effective. My wife works with the elderly in her job as a Home Health RN, so I am familiar with their needs and challenges.
I think we should be a community that respects the law, and the dignity of the individual. Services should be available to those in the immigrant/refugee community, and there should be no fear in them asking for help. The city has no immigration enforcement capability, so we will take care of the residents in our community and let the INS take care of their duties.
The upcoming 'fiscal cliff' is the major issue facing every department and service in Kent over the next few years. I have proven solutions to handle that. This issue is a great opportunity to shake people out of the 'business as usual' mode and implement sustainable solutions. Kent should budget to projected revenue, not proposed expenses. My proposals, including a Public Bank and the Shared Service Delivery model, will save the city close to tens of millions per year. More than enough to handle the fiscal cliff and create a stable financial future.
The fiscal cliff is the most urgent issue we face in Kent. Every service, including pubic safety, parks, roads, infrastructure and more will be affected negatively if we don't make some serious changes to how we do business in Kent.
I will seek out the best solutions from around the nation to help address the issues facing Kent. I will make sure the mayor knows all solutions available and communicate regularly to find the best ideas as we develop a plan that ensures a sustainable financial future for Kent.
