Town where you live Des Moines
Experience (300 characters max) After studying environmental science at The Evergreen State College I began working for King County Councilmember Dave Upthegrove, and eventually served as his campaign manager. I spent over five years as the communications director for Sensible Washington, and have been an elected PCO since 2012.
Our city lacks a centralized draw. I support establishing a centralized, multi-activity community center. I also support establishing a municipal broadband system that provides cheaper and faster high-speed internet and stops the current monopolization of broadband.
I support establishing a 24-hour homeless shelter in the city, and additionally funding other homeless services such as an increased food bank presence. I also support increasing the amount of affordable housing located in the city.
If elected, I commit to:

- Supporting an increase in funding for Parks, Recreation and Senior Services

- Doing my best to improve public safety, including funding further police protection

- Working to reduce utility taxes, which for many have gone up over 100% and are a particular burden for seniors on a strict budget
I support making Des Moines a sanctuary city.
Rising levels of poverty. To help with this, I support raising the minimum wage and increase sick and maternity leave. A rising homeless population is also an issue (the two being clearly connected). As mentioned previously, I also support increasing homeless services including establishing a 24-hour homeless shelter, and working to increase affordable housing.
Rising levels of poverty
I will use constant communication, respect and an open mind to work with the city's mayor and city manager.
