Toppenish School District #202 Director District 2/Distrito escolar de Toppenish Distrito 2

4-year termNo Salary, some districts offer small per diem for evening meetings. School Board Members or “directors” – are the elected governing body of the school district, serving four-year terms. The school board’s governance responsibilities fall in four major areas: Vision – focuses the work on student achievement through a comprehensive strategic planning process; Structure – provides prudent financial planning and oversight; diligent and innovative policymaking; Accountability – sets specific goals and a process for evaluation, reporting and recommendations for improvements; and Advocacy – champions public education in the local community and before state and federal policy makers. The School Board sets the general policies of the district, which are implemented by the hired professional district Superintendent and certificated teaching staff and personnel. One of the critical duties is the adoption of the district's budget and proposal of any school levies to be placed on the ballot to the people. The commission sets policies and approves all spending via the budget. The council also sets salaries for district employees.

Experience (300 characters max) I been serving as a School Board Member for 3 years, but my involvement with the Community has been a life time term.
Expanding and improving our facilities to have better tools to serve our children and those who work with them.
I believe that Charter Schools are a benefit to our communities if we work together to achieve the same goals which are to provide the best education to our students.
Testing has been a great tool for grading the students, but we must focus in teaching and prepare our students for real life situations.
I believe that we must form and teach our kids the importance of start their days early. Parents must be responsible of developing discipline at home for kids to establish a healthy schedule.
Working as a team collaborating and developing the strategies to achieve the School Vision together.
Very carefully! We cannot ignore the issue and must face it immediately, teaching our kids respect for others and understanding the consequences that can create.
We will seek the collaboration of other agencies and faith base organizations from our Community to educate our students in their civic responsibilities.
Student suspension should be the last consequence, our discipline must built and not destroy the character and responsibility of our students.
