Experience (300 characters max) Started from the ground up in the Fire Service, last rank Fire Chief of Gales Addition Station.Commissioner for last 12 years, Board Chairman. Board Member of First Regional Emergency Medical Service. Started first school supply program, Community service to service groups, and the elderly.
I am currently a Board Member, and there are tasks that still concern me for the future of the district that I want to complete. With many discussions with the Board of Commissioners, we are constantly working toward important goals. My concern is that this is not the best time for an inexperienced person to become a board member. Before running, it would be prudent to attend many commissioner meetings to understand the issues before us. We do welcome the public to come and listen to the issues, big and small.
We have an important issue of replacing an aging fleet of vehicles. Also, we have substandard fire stations that are in need of updating to seismic standards for earthquakes. Manpower is also a major concern of mine, for without the personnel to perform the tasks at hand needed for firefighting or all types of medical services, life and property are at stake for all.
As stated before, manpower! The Fire Service is no different then any other type of business, in that the bottom line controls what services we can do. Unlike a For Profit company, we are supported by the tax payers in our district. We have a small percentage of tax dollars to work with that will support the tax payers needs. We provide fire protection, medical services and work to lower insurance costs due to the districts fire rating, all of which cost. Multi-tasking is not only used in the business world, but also in the Fire service as well. Volunteers can't do it alone; paid personnel are coming into the picture, and limited tax dollars mean multi-tasking at its best.
Fire and medical experience, was the first Emergency Medical Technician for the district, last rank was Chief of Gales Addition Station. I have been Businessman, and active in community services. I keep updated on the Public Meeting Act, have an understanding of the Districts economic needs to run the District. I have always put the District and tax payers interest front and center as an elected official. I know the business from the bottom up.
