Watchung Hills Regional High School serves both Somerset and Morris counties in New Jersey. Students come from Warren Township, Watchung, and Green Brook in Somerset county; and Long Hill Township in Morris county.Watchung Hills Regional High School Is a comprehensive secondary school that strives for educational excellence. The focal point of the educational program is the student. Students are taught to think logically and critically and to achieve their fullest academic potential. The school encourages individual self-realization along with social and civic responsibility. The educational program strives to create an awareness of and a tolerance for other cultures and an understanding of moral and aesthetic values.There is one seat in this election for a three year term.

I am attorney in private practice. I have lived in Warren for 26 years. I served two three-year terms on the Warren Township K-8 Board of Education from 2000 to 2006. I was also elected to, and served, three three-year terms on the Watchung Hills Regional High School Board of Education. I am also active and involved in other activities and organizations in Warren Township and Somerset County. During my last term on the Watchung Hills Regional High School Board of Education, I was also appointed to the New Jersey School Boards Associations's Legislative Committee.
The budget, continuing to improve an already very good high school, and getting more of our graduates into more competitive colleges.

In many of the last four or five years, the 2% Cap on tax revenues has been nearly consumed, and in some cases exceeded, by the annual increases in our health insurance costs. It is likely that this will continue because we do not have the tools at a local level to limit the increases in our health insurance costs. This makes it extremely difficult to fund the great variety of courses, programs, and extra curriculars which the High School offers without cutting teachers, courses or programs. In some cases we have had to cut courses where there was not enough interest from the students to sustain the programs. This has led to outcries from the students affected and their parents. When I am back on the Board I will continue to question administrators closely to insure that our budgets are as lean as possible and I will also join in the efforts to find alternative revenue sources.

You cannot continue to improve a high school as good as ours if you do not have a vision of where you want to get to and how you will get there. That is why a Strategic Plan is so important. In 2015 and 2016, when I was a member of the Board I was one of two Board members actively participating in the adoption of the High School's Strategic Plan. Every year we have to measure how we are doing and revise the plan in order to continue to improve.

We need to have our staff spend more time either in forming relationships with college admissions departments or in studying high schools that have improved their guidance departments and college admissions. Our High School is a very highly rated school which provides a rigorous and outstanding education. We should be getting more of our middle students into competitive and highly competitive colleges.
I think that the civics education provided by the teachers at Watchung Hills Regional High School is outstanding. We are lucky to have a dedicated staff who provide not only an excellent education in the classroom, but also guide a number of extra-curricular clubs and activities for our students. Just a few examples include the Model United Nations program and the Junior State of America program, debate and moot court activities. In addition to these staff members volunteer their time without compensation to guide history and economics clubs.
