Significant policy changes in public education are being considered at the federal and state level. Describe a change that you agree or disagree with and explain your position.

What do you think are the top three equity issues in the district and how will you address them?

What principles will you apply to evaluating recommendations from the superintendent with regard to which programs to reduce in a time of constrained funding?

Qualifications: Current Board Member
Using public funds for private school vouchers would bankrupt our public school system. Also, private schools do not provide the same resources that some of our most vulnerable children need, such as Individualized Education Plans, access to free breakfast/lunch, etc. All children have the right to access free public education and use these resources to better their lives. Directing public money toward private schools sacrifices the needs of the many for the wants of the few.
Learning disparities based on various factors, e.g., race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, language, etc.. Additional resources to support underperforming schools during the primary years.

Recruitment, retention, and support of faculty and administrative staff of color. Network to create a collaboration with universities that have a higher minority presence.

Continued awareness surrounding issues of equity, diversity, and inclusion. Annual trainings for all faculty and staff.
I would start by requesting a detailed accounting of the costs of each program, including the number of students involved. Next, I would apply the equity lens to each program. Finally, I would ask: what elimination or reduction will have the least impact on our children?
